Trying to pacth Oracle 11g 11.2.0.3 on Windows. P:\oracle\ECD\11203\oui\jlib\srvm.jar Log file location: x:\oracle\xxx\11203\cfgtoollogs\opatch\14223718_Sep_27_2012_1 7_46_05\apply2012-09-27_17-46-05PM_1.log Recommended actions: OPatch needs to modify files which are being used by some p rocesses. OPatch failed with error code = 41 Found this help: https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2388101 Its a know bug and the fix is renaming belo files temporarily. %ORACLE_HOME%\OPatch\jlib\oracle.opatch.classpath.jar Just rename it to anything, and run opatch apply again. It will then succeed. /alak

Solaris 10 SUnOS 5.10 not detect Intel 82562EZ NIC on x86 System

So we installed Solaris 10 on a crappy Dell Optiplex 170L It does not detect the integrated Ethernet NIC network card Googled the spec and believe its the Intel 82562EZ Ethernet Googled again and found this site which really helped. below mirror for me self: Solaris 10 – x86 – Getting intel 82562EZ (Asus P5GD1) working (Solaris Driver) I added iprb "8086,1050" iprb "8086,1064" to  /etc/driver_aliases and then touch /etc/dhcp.iprb0 touch /etc/hostname.iprb0 followed by shutdown -i6 -g0 -y And I was able to get the Intel 10/100 VE Network Interface (82652 EZ) functioning as it should under solaris. The driver is included with Solaris 10 for x86 but you need to do the above to get the driver working with this board. BUT! mine was to change the 8086 part to pci8086 to become somewhat: iprb "pci8086,1050" iprb "pci8086,1064" and everything works OK after wards. ./alak

SAP: Manual Transports between System/Clients

Image
it so happen that RFC connection became a problematic issue i on of my clients' landscape. But there was few urgent transport requests. RFC problem means cannot retrieve/import/export files in STMS. Temporary workaround? Manually copy over file and add transport request in target system. Example scenario: - from DEV to PRD - TR number is 900277 1. In DEV, locate your /usr/sap/trans directory. 2. there should be many folders, but we are concern with 'data' and 'cofiles' 3. format for data file and cofiles file is this: Data file: R .  for example: R900277.DEV Cofiles file: K .  for example: K900277.DEV 4. Copy from DEV's data/R900277.DEV and cofiles/K900277.DEV into PRD's data/ and cofiles/ folder respectively. 5. Open SAPGui, and go to tcode STMS 6. CLick on the Transport icon (the lorry) 7. Click on the PRD system 8. In Menu Bar, Extras > Other Requests > Add as below screenshot: 9. Enter your request number as following f

WSB: Full backup vs. System State backup

WSB or Windows Server Backup utility gives you a quite basic and direct backup utility. You can have it scheduled and dump it on a saperate net share or however settings you may have in your environemtn. Theres Full Backup and System State Backup? What are them? Google. Whats the difference? Well, from this ref link i basically confirms my understanding which is Full Backup includes a System State Backup. Thats all. Just fo my own note. Note: - WSB FAQ http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/8585.windows-server-backup-frequently-asked-questions-faq-en-us.aspx - System State Backup restoration http://serverfault.com/questions/17624/what-is-a-system-state-backup-for TQ. .alak

Full and System State Active Directory Server Backup through Command Line

Image
Case: - AD server physical disk crashed. - Bpught a new replacement HDD and restored from a Acronis backup image (.tib). - Restored AD boots up but seem to fail when loading services. - To no avail, planning to do a Windows Server Backup (full) from a redundant server and restore from Directory Services Recovery Mode (DSRM) - advance boot options. - a side note: Somehow, booting into DSRM works. Ref: - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771583 Steps: - i choose CLi coz i think its less complicated. - i set up a shared folder on diff server, and planned to write it to the shared folder. - syntax used: wbadmin start backup -include:c: -backuptarget:\\ \WinBackup_1\ -quiet - currently in progress: And for the sake of it, i have a system state backup too: wbadmin start systemstatebackup -backuptarget:\\vantage02\Vantage\WinBackup_1\  -quiet Screenshot: Ouh! a System State Backup can't be saved on a Shared Folder.. okayguy.jpg So simple,

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain: An error with no description has occurred

Image
A server in our network seems not yet in our domain, so i am trying to register/insert it into our domain. But following error occurred: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain: An error with no description has occurred. Not sure why. Didn't google yet ho. So i went RDP into my Domain Controller. Discovered the Computer Name was Disabled. WHY THE F? i don't know. So, i enabled it back. Click on Computers on the left pane. Then Right Click on the Computer Name, and Enable Object. however, that DID NOT solve my issue. Hmm.. Google it is. i gogled and stumnble upon this: http://www.justanswer.com/computer/4goyr-getting-error-message-the-following-error-occurred-attempting.html Followed that conversation betweet IT ete and Customer and realize the keyword: DNS!! :D Did two things: 1) set the Domain Controller IP as the DNS server (Primary) 2) add the Domain Controller's IP and hostname into the server's c:\windows\system32\drive

Could not start transport control program TP

Image
The case: i was about to do a Transport. and in SE09, trying to releasing the TR, the following error occurred: "Could not start transport control program TP" Straight away, went to sm21: And in st22: A quick googling is in order! And according to this site: http://scn.sap.com/thread/767026 It recommends me to do a connection test RFC.. And i did.. and it failed! And this is the moment when i realize this: - few days back i was trying to make my DEV server to have internet connection. - after some time i discovered it does not resolve any domains, thus logical thing to do is assigned it with a local DNS name server, which i did. - that apparently caused the issue. Darn it! So resolution? Simple, just remove back the name servers and everything back to normal. The things is, all in this environment uses /etc/hosts statically defining ech server involve. A name server really confuses them. Haha Ok. #LessonLearnt - Adam

SAP: User Type 'CF' Does Not Exist in Price List during USMM

Image
We had a case where we had to do a User Measurement Exefcise. Required by SAP. In our contract stated user type CF - SAP Business Expert User but in USMM that User Type for Price List "SAP Applications" does not seem to exists. Resolution: http://www.service.sap.com/licenseauditing   -> ‘Named User Measurement’ -> ‘Measurement Program Tips & Tricks’ -> then click the link based on your SAP_BASIS RELEASE gamba dlm email In my case, its SAP_BASIS 7.xx. So p roceed as the instruction: 1 - Log on to the target system 2 - Open the ABAP editor, transaction SE38 3 - Create a new report, for example, ZTUTYP_UPD 4 - Choose attribute "Type" as "Executable program" 5 - Save your entries as "Local object" 6 - Load the report text from the download to the text editor (notepad) and save the text on the clipboard 7 - Return to the ABAP editor and insert the text from the clipboard

Service does not support chkconfig

I wanted to add a script to run automatically on startup/reboot. chkconfig it is. my original script: #!/bin/bash echo "ayam" > /tmp/test.txt But when adding to chkconfig, using chkconfig --add received the error: Service does not support chkconfig. Googling, found this two URLS: - http://linux.about.com/library/cmd/blcmdl8_chkconfig.htm - http://blog.tuxforge.com/service-does-not-support-chkconfig/ But the 2nd link seems not that proper. We still need the "#" before chkconfig word. My final script was as below: #!/bin/bash # chkconfig: 2345 95 20 # description: Description of the script # processname: Echoing ayam. echo "ayam" > /tmp/test.txt Now works like a charm. //alak

Linux Hardening

A rip from two sites i guess.. http://www.configserver.com/cp/csf.html http://www.thealders.net/blogs/2007/01/17/server-hardening/ If you run your own Linux server here are some tips on server hardening, liberally stolen from the CFS security GUI script for cPanel/WHM, that I have become only too familiar with since yesterday: On your firewall (you do have one don’t you?) check the incoming MySQL port and if 3306 is open, close it. If this port is left open it can pose both a security and server abuse threat since not only can hackers attempt to break into MySQL, any user can host their SQL database on your server and access it from another host and so (ab)use your server resources Check /tmp permissions. /tmp should be chmod 1777 Check /tmp ownership /tmp should be owned by root:root Check /etc/cron.daily/logrotate for /tmp noexec workaround. Due to a bug in logrotate if /tmp is mounted with the noexec option, you need to have logrotate use a different temporary director
